Emollient
Emollients contain mucilage which are used to soothe and soften the skin, indicated for chapped lips, rashes, sunburn, and any skin irritation. A demulcent is a herb rich in mucilage used to soothe and protect irritated or inflamed tissues. When they are used on the skin they are called emollients.
- Comfrey (Symphytum officinale)
- Chickweed (Stellaria media)
- Flaxseed (Linum usitatissimum)
- Cornsilk (Zea Mays)
- Marshmallow (Althea officinalis)
- Couch grass (Agropyron repens)
- Slippery Elm (Ulmus fulvus)
- Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra)
