Aperient

Aperients usually bitter herbs that stimulate the production and release of bile, which lubricates the digestive tract. They are gentle digestive tonics and mild laxatives. They relieve stress-induced digestive disturbances and stimulate colon cleansing. (See Bitter, which is closely related.)

  • Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale)
  • Artichoke leaf (Cynara scolymus)
  • Oregon Grape (Mahonia aquifolium)
  • Yellow Dock (Rumex crispus)
  • Psyllium seeds (Plantago psyllium)
